ANTIGONISH – St. Francis Xavier University students feel they are getting more than their money’s worth, according Macleans’ annual student survey.
The survey shows 95 percent of students are satisfied with their decision to attend St. FX.
“Our students receive an education of the highest quality,” says Dr. Mary McGillivray, academic vice-president and provost. “Our university invests in full-time faculty to the greatest extent possible. The vast majority of these faculty members possess the highest qualifications in their fields; most have PhDs. Our part-time faculty, too, are very well-qualified and highly committed individuals. We don’t rely on teaching assistants to deliver our courses. This is very rare at universities across the country.”
This year the Macleans’ results also uncovered another factor affecting student satisfaction. Small campus size matters greatly.
Once again, St. FX students gave the university an A+ for classroom size, exceeding their expectations, and accessibility to professors outside the classroom.
When it came to student life, students placed St. FX at the top of the list in Canada.
“We are very passionate about our university,” says Sam Mason, president of the student union. “Students are very involved in extracurricular activities. The exceptional quality of education and overall experience we receive here is second to none.”
