homas J. Morrisey, 73, of Dartmouth, passed away on April 28, 2011, at home surrounded by family. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Tom was the son of the late Tom and Margaret (Johnson) Morrisey. He is survived by his wife, Nicole (Ferguson); son, Charles (Melissa Lee); daughters Traci (John Trainor), Sheri (Fred Kinney); a grandson, Sean; and a granddaughter, Regan; a brother, Daniel; and two sisters, Marjorie and Joanne. Thérèse and Keith Coughlan, Gaby and Pierre Gagné, Phil and Denise Ferguson, and Rose-Marie (late Camille) Curry, and their children, as well as precious friends, were a loving part of his extended family. A graduate of StFX, he completed a Masters Degree in Education at U of T, and obtained his doctorate from the University of Maine at Orono. He began his teaching career at St. Patrick's High School in Halifax, and then became vice principal at a school in Goose Bay, NL. The greater part of his career was spent as professor of Science Education and Environmental Studies at UNB in Fredericton. Tom was an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast who loved fishing, hunting, and working in the woods.

William Louis ‘Bill’ MacGillivary passed away peacefully on May 16, 2011 in the Dartmouth General Hospital due to pulmonary fibrosis.
Born at home in South Bar C.B., he was the son of the late Herbert and Ella (White) MacGillivary. He retired from the Provincial Government as Physical Plant Systems Coordinator, Dept. of Supply and Services.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Phyllis (McPhee); son, Vince, Dartmouth; daughter, Colleen, Victoria; grandson, Adam Storie; granddaughter, Melissa Storie and great-granddaughter, Noella Storie-Davis, Victoria; his sisters, Connie Boone (Greg), New Waterford, Cecilia Nearing, (Tom), Guelph; sisters-in-law, Isabel MacGillivary, South Bar, Geraldine Larocque, Ottawa; many cousins, nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Herb; sisters, Jenny Kinsella, Rita Melnyk, Bernadette Bryden; two brothers and two sisters in childhood and sister-in-law, Iris Heney (Mike), Ottawa; brothers-in-law, Neil MacDonald, Bob Kinsella, Sander Melnyk and John Bryden.

Lee Matchett beloved husband of Marie Matchett and father to Bill, Wendy and Sean of Calgary, passed away after succumbing to Alzheimer’s disease on May 29, 2011 at the age of 83 years.
Lee donated his body to research in an endeavour to aid in a cure for this devastating disease.
Lee was born to Leland B Matchett, an RCMP officer and his new bride May A Dolan, on the banks of the Miramichi River in New Brunswick. A struggle to say the least, at less than three pounds at birth Lee survived with God’s care and the doting efforts of his parents. He grew up following his family from post to post throughout New Brunswick.
Lee graduated from the University of New Brunswick and St. Francis Xavier University with degrees in Engineering and Geology. As a team member he then worked in the Atlantic developing submarine detection sonar technology for the Department of Naval Research. From there he ventured West to seek employment within the oil and gas industry. After a stint with the Canadian Geological Survey he joined Husky Oil as a geologist and met his loving wife of 58 years. Subsequently Lee held positions of V.P. of Exploration at Altana Exploration, V.P. of Champlin Oil Company (Canada), President of Maynard Exploration, President of WWS Resources, and CEO of Dorchester Energy Inc. before his retirement.
Lee was an active member of; The Calgary Chamber of Commerce, A lifetime member of APEGGA, The Calgary Petroleum Club, and President of the Calgary Flying Club.
Lee’s greatest joy in life was his family. With his passion for the freedom of flight and his skills as a pilot, he exposed his family and friends to a world of discovery. With an affinity to help those not as blessed, he lived his life as he was brought up. “We are our brother’s keepers.” He was a kind and generous man that treated all those around him with love and respect.
Lee is survived by his loving wife Marie V Matchett, sons William LB Matchett, (Sheri), and Sean R Matchett, daughter Wendy M Matchett, grandchildren Cara, Brendan, Tiffany, Keely, and Sam. June Matchett, Linda McCorquodale, (Brian), Luke, Liam, Hope, Tara, Rita Stein, (Rick Saunders), Kathy and Ted Cholod, Michael (Brenda) and Greg. Connie and Howard Kellough, Mary and Sarah. The death occurred peacefully at the Summerset Manor, Summerside, P.E.I. on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 of Waldon ‘Wally’ J. MacGillivray, FCA of Summerside and formerly of Cape Breton, NS, aged 75 years.
Wally was born on March 29, 1934 in Victoria Mines, NS, to his late parents Waldon and Laura (nee Ling) MacGillivray. Beloved husband of Joan (nee Gourley) MacGillivray and loving father of Murray (Dianne) of Oakville, ON, Laura MacGillivray of Halifax, NS, Jennifer (Richard) Schmalz of Halifax, NS and Maureen (Paul) of Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by his six grandchildren, David, Daniel, Nadene, Melanie, Rebecca and Katherine; along with many nieces and nephews. Survived by his brothers and sisters, Geraldine MacSween of Antigonish, NS, Mary MacNeil, Bernadette Dunphy, James and Muriel Harter, all of Cape Breton, NS and Blaze of Ontario.
Besides his parents, Wally was predeceased by his sisters, Lenore Parker, Laura Meritt and Genevieve Boudreau.

91, South Bar Jennie Agnes Richards, 91, of South Bar, passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney. Born in South Bar, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Grace (McLennan) Richards. Jennie attended Mount Allison University, Nova Scotia Teachers College and she obtained a Master of Arts degree from St. FX University in 1956. Jennie’s career began as a social worker with Children’s Aid Society and travelled much of Cape Breton Island, serving the needs of the less fortunate. Later Jennie became a school teacher and began her teaching career in Whittenburg, N.S. From there she taught in various schools across Cape Breton Island but most of her teaching career was spent at Whitney School. She retired in 1975 as principal of Eastmount School, Sydney. Jennie was a faithful member of Trinity United Church in Whitney Pier and served on various committees throughout the years. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Gladys Spears and Greta Bos and her brother, Morgan. Jennie was also predeceased by nephew, David Spears and niece, Marie Pothier. She is survived by nephews, Richard Spears, Robert Richards and Richard Bos and niece, Rosemary Lewis. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Visitation Friday, Sept. 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and funeral from Trinity United Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, with Rev. Jackie MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow at Eastmount Cemetery. It is with deepest sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Father Alexander MacKinnon, 82, of Antigonish, who died Tuesday, August 9, at St Martha Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Father Alex was born and raised in New Waterford and was the son of the late John J. MacKinnon and Isabel (Campbell) MacKinnon.
He graduated from Saint Francis Xavier University in 1951. He attended the Grand Seminary in Quebec City and Laval University, in 1955 was Ordained to the Priesthood for the Diocese of Antigonish. Father Alex served as assistant Pastor at St. Peter’s Parish Port Hood, St. John the Baptist Parish New Glasgow, and St Joseph’s Parish North Sydney. In 1961 he was appointed to the Antigonish Diocesan Latin American Apostolate where he spent the next 14 years serving the diocese in Central America. He spent the first 4 years in Costa Rica and was then assigned to Honduras where the needs were much greater. During his time in Honduras he was appointed Director of the Antigonish Diocesan Apostolate for Honduras lasting until 1975. In 1975 Father Alex was appointed to the staff of the Coady International Institute of St.F.X. University as Co-ordinator of the Latin America Sector, responsible for all Coady activities relating to Latin America. He also served as Chaplain to Catholic students and was the Co-ordinator of Counselling Services at the Coady. In 1987 Father Alex became Registrar of the Coady International Institute. In 1994 he retired from the Coady and did sabbatical studies in Ottawa and Rome. He then served as Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s, Antigonish County. From July 1996 until his second retirement in 2009 Father Alex served as Chaplain at St.Martha’s Hospital.
Father Alex is survived by his sisters Ann Genereux (Penticton, BC), Mary MacGillivary (Sydney, NS), Willena MacKinnon (Phoenix, AZ), Theresa (Pat) Lee (Studio City, CA), sisters-in-law Sadie (Francis) MacKinnon (Rochester, NH), Kay (Roddie) MacKinnon (New Waterford, NS), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers Donald, Francis, and Roderick, sister-in-law Peggy MacKinnon, and brothers-in law Bill Genereux, and Edward MacGillivary.
Visitation will be held 7-9 pm Saturday, August 13 and 2-4 pm Sunday, August 14 in Morrison Hall, St.F.X. Campus. A Vigil Service will be held at 7pm Sunday, August 14 at St.F.X. Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held 11 am Monday, August 15 at St.F.X Chapel, Bishop Brian Dunn officiating. A reception following Mass will be held in Morrison Hall.
Burial will take place Tuesday August 16 at 11am in Mount Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford.

Roy ‘Rosie’ Pringle MacMillan passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, after a brief illness.
Born in Sydney on Jan. 13, 1922, Roy was the son of the late Duncan and Florence (MacLean) MacMillan. He lived most of his life at the family residence first occupied by his parents in 1908. Rosie was a Centurian baby, having been born in 1922; 100 years after the family immigrated from Scotland (aboard the Commerce).
He is survived by his son, Duncan.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been predeceased by brothers, Bruce, Charles, Art; sisters Catherine, Laura, Pearl, Grace, Eva and Muriel.
Rosie was a well known sports figure in hockey, football, rugby, baseball and basketball. He had a stellar career with St. FX University, Dalhousie, The Sydney Millionaires and the Antigonish Bulldogs. He was an inductee into the Cape Breton Sports Hall of Fame for multi-sports in 2000.
A graduate of St. FX University and attended Dalhousie University, Rosie spent his career in the insurance industry. He was the owner of Keltic Agency until his retirement.
A true ‘man about town’, Rosie was a popular and well liked individual. He was a member of the Lingan Golf Club, Royal Canadian Yacht Club, Kiwanis, Branch 12 Legion, to name a few. He spent many a pleasant moment with his lifelong buddies at his summer residence in Malagawatch, Cape Breton. In his later years he gained many a friend as he made his daily Tim Horton rounds.
Visitation for Mr. MacMillan will take place on Sunday, Aug. 14 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel at 12 noon followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. officiated by Rev. Tom Whent. A reception will follow.

Randall F. Cormier
Cormier, Randall F., BSc., Ph D., died peacefully Monday October 24, 2011 in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish. Randall was the son of the late Kathleen (MacDonald) and James Francis Cormier. Born in Truro, raised in Saint John, NB by his Aunt Jean and Uncle Eugene Donahue, after the death of his father in an automobile accident, when he was eight years old. He attended St. Francis Xavier University and M.I.T., where he received his doctorate in geology.. He won outstanding teaching award at X and Excellence in Teaching for the Maritime Provinces. Prior to his stroke in June 2011 he was confined to a wheelchair in his home for ten years, a challenge he bore gracefully. Before that, he was an avid runner and could be seen running along the Main Street or in the Johnny Miles Marathon. He is survived by his wife Marie, six sons; Michael, Colorado, Willie (Kathleen), Antigonish, James (Rose), Antigonish, Matthew, (Janace), Frasers’s Mills, Stephen (Lynn), Texas, John Randall (Donna), Ottawa; sister Eileen (Don), Calgary, sister-in-law Ann, Thunder Bay and many grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Paul and granddaughter Heather. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday, October 26 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. MURRAY, Robert E. - “To Everything there is a season“. The season of death returned ROBERT E. MURRAY to his heavenly father on December 1, 2011 at Bluewater Health. He died peacefully surrounded by his devoted wife and family. Robert, or Bob as he was commonly known, along with his twin sister Jean, were born in Jamaica Plain, Boston, 81 years ago. He was the youngest of 10 children born to Mary and John Murray. In 1949, Bob came to Canada with a lifelong friend to attend St. Frances Xavier University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Education degrees. It was there that he met his wife of 56 years Dolores Doyle. Bob began his teaching career in Sydney, N. S. He also taught in Alberta and finally in Sarnia where he retired from teaching to pursue other goals. He later worked in several government agencies ending up as a Supervisor with the Bluewater Bridge. Bob's commitment to his faith, family and friends was unparalled. He was a man of high integrity and possessed a keen sense of humour. He particularly enjoyed having coffee with his dear friends at John's Restaurant. Of course his annual visits to Cape Breton and Boston were highlights of his life. He is survived by his loving wife and their 5 sons and 2 daughters. Lowell with his wife Heather (Sarnia) have 6 children; Jennifer (Nick), Paul (Dania), Brian, Cherilyn, Kathryn, Brad. David with his wife Sandi (Toronto) who have 2 children Kiran and Hailey. Lianne Murray-Ross and her husband Paul (Sarnia) who have 2 boys Kevin and Conor. Bert and his wife Julie (London) who have 2 boys Darryl and Scott. Kelly Murray Bartel and her husband Rudi (Toronto) who have one son Adam. Ian and his wife Karen (Bright's Grove) who have 4 children, Courtney, Sean and twins Lauren and Erin. Sister Mary Roderick MacMullin

Sister Mary Roderick MacMullin, 87, a Sister of St. Martha of Antigonish, died at Bethany, the motherhouse on Dec. 25, 2011, in the 66th year of her religious life.
Born in Louisbourg, N.S., Sister Mary Roderick was the sixth in a family of 15 children, the daughter of the late John and Stella (Dixon) MacMullin.
Sister Roderick entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha on Aug. 15, 1944. She pronounced her first vows Aug. 15, 1946, and her perpetual profession of vows Aug. 15, 1949. Sister ministered in the field of education for 36 years. In 1949 she graduated from the Provincial Normal College in Truro with her teaching certificate. Sister attended St. Francis Xavier University and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in 1951 and her Master of Arts degree in 1956. In 1968 she was certified as a reading specialist with the Department of Education in Nova Scotia and received her TC 8 Teaching Licence in 1971. Sister Roderick attended Temple University in Philadelphia, Penn., and graduated with her Masters of Education in 1971 and her Doctorate in Education in 1978.
Her ministry in education was with the Nova Scotia Department of Education, serving in Margaree, Main-a-Dieu and Dingwall as both teacher and principal. In 1964, Sister Roderick began teaching at St. Andrews Rural High School in Antigonish and remained there until 1975. After one year of full-time study at Temple University, Sister returned to Antigonish and taught at St. Andrew Junior High for two years. It was at that time, 1978-81, she took up the position of regional reading Consultant with the Municipality of Antigonish. From 1981-89, Sister taught in the Education Department of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish.
After retiring from teaching, Sister Roderick was named archivist for the congregation and set up an excellent archival system and data base. Following her resignation from this position in 1998, Sister was asked to set up the archives for the Diocese of Antigonish. She completed this ministry in 2001, moving into full-time retirement at the motherhouse. Because of failing health, Sister moved into Bethany’s extended care in 2003, where she remained until her death.
Sister Roderick is survived by three sisters, Theresa MacKinnon, Betty Senvardarli and Patricia Lahey, and by three brothers, Gregory, Ralph and Michael.
She was predeceased by six brothers, Roderick, Daniel, George, John, Patrick and Peter, and by two sisters, Sadie Mrazek, Margaret Kehoe.
The remains will be resting at Bethany, beginning Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 1:15 p.m., where a Celebration of Vigil will be held on the same evening at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. in Bethany Chapel.
