CLASS OF 1961 - SPECIAL EVENTS
Class of 1961 50-year Reunion
Dear Classmates of 1961:
Our moment has arrived. This year WE are the golden anniversary class. The university will honor us with a special dinner at the new Charles V. Keating Centre. We write to invite you to reconnect with StFX and your fellow classmates the weekend of September 30, October 1, 2. Over fifty years ago we entered StFX full of hopes and fears; it was where we readied ourselves for the wider world and the many challenges and adventures we would encounter on our individual journeys.
Our memories of those four years shared with good friends make us nostalgic to see those friends again, exchange life stories, and relive campus memories. Leafing through the yearbook of 1961 is something we do from time to time. Now we have a chance to meet those special friends and classmates again in person even if we need a nametag to recognize one other.
Some of our close friends have died, and we are saddened when we hear about each one. They will be with us again in a special way homecoming weekend as we reminisce, pray for them and toast them and their undying presence in our minds and hearts.
We have changed a lot, but so has StFX. When we were at the university there were 800 of us at StFX and MSB. Now there are 4,200. You will be impressed to see how our alma mater has expanded: the new and renewed residences, the new science hall, the new Schwartz School of Business, the Charles V. Keating Centre with two ice surfaces, an exercise room, and a dance studio! Finally, the new Coady International Institute will amaze you with its beautiful renovated quarters that used to be Somers Hall, Augustine House, Aquinas House and the art building. StFX wins annual national recognition in Maclean’s magazine and the Globe and Mail. We knew we were good, and are happy others recognize it.
Your organizing committee has planned a number of special events to make the weekend an enjoyable and memorable one. Besides the general events of the weekend, such as the Friday Welcome Home dinner at the Charles V. Keating Centre (where we will all be seated together), the football game, campus tours, and the Sunday Alumni Mass, events just for our class have also been organized. These Golden Grad events include: the Saturday night President’s reception and Golden Grad dinner at Keating Centre; a Golden Grad mass to remember our deceased classmates; bus trip to Crystal Cliffs where we shall have lunch and a special meeting of our class. We also have a hospitality suite at the Greenway Claymore Inn for Thursday evening where people can drop in after arrival and get started in the party mode.
