Class of 1971 40-year Reunion
Greetings Class of 1971!
This year at St. Francis Xavier University, we will celebrate the 40th anniversary of our graduation. Homecoming is always tremendous fun for those who attend, and offers us the opportunity to see old friends and to catch up on life since leaving StFX. The weekend also affords the chance to participate in homecoming activities with other alumni and current students that will rekindle that X spirit. You will also get to see firsthand the significant enhancements made to the campus since 1971.
This letter is your invitation to join us for this celebration! The tentative Homecoming schedule is attached and can also be viewed on our class webpage: www.alumni.stfx.ca/clasof1971.
To celebrate our reunion, the weekend will kick off with:
-
Welcome Home Dinner for all classes on Friday, September 30th, beginning with a reception at 6 pm
-
Convocation Ceremony at the Class of ’71 Saturday Dinner – With the President conferring Degrees
-
Homecoming Inn Pub Nights in the Bloomfield Centre following both dinners
-
Annual Homecoming football game, Saturday, October 1st
-
Post Game Reception - Class of ’71 will gather after the game in the Oland Gym, in the corner closest to the Loney Lounge.
-
Campus walking tours, coffee with Coady, Mount St. Bernard Tea, an Alumni Mass and a farewell brunch on Sunday.
On Saturday, our 40th reunion class dinner will be very special, as it will feature a ceremony that many did not have an opportunity to attend. Given that our class graduated during turbulent times, the University will host a special Convocation Ceremony at our class dinner. President Dr. Sean Riley will confer our degrees and join us as we celebrate our special anniversary. A class photo will be taken.
At our 35th Reunion, the class of ’71 scholastic fund was established. The fund currently has a balance of $23,575. Help us realize our goal of having a capital balance of at least $100,000 in time for our 50th reunion in 2021! These funds help students in need a great deal.
Whether or not you are able to attend our 40th reunion, even a modest donation would see us reach this goal and begin to help StFX students. Contact Lynn O’Donnell, Development Officer, at lodonnel@stfx.ca or 902-867-5017 or, if called by the Advancement Office during its annual giving campaign, designate your donation to the Class of ‘71 Fund.
A class meeting will be held on Saturday, October 1st at 12:30 pm in the Schwartz School of Business, room 190, to discuss details of this fund and to start planning for our 50th reunion.
To register for Homecoming, purchase tickets, get updates on our class events, and to see who is coming, visit our reunion webpage at www.alumni.stfx.ca/classof1971. Some events, including our reunion dinner and pub nights, will require advance commitment and registration for ticketing so don’t miss out. Use the enclosed registration form (also available on the website) and contact Alicia Mika in Alumni Affairs with any further questions or concerns regarding registrations (amika@stfx.ca or 902-867-3760).
Until we see you in October….

Please pass the word on to all classmates that you are in contact with to let them know about our Homecoming reunion.

Book your accommodations as soon as possible. There are a limited number of rooms blocked for our class at the Claymore Inn (must book before June 15th), and at the Rose and Thistle B & B. See the enclosed accommodations list for more information. If the hotel of your choice is booked, please ask to be put on their waiting list as rooms may become available during the summer months.
-
“Missing” Classmates. Please review the list of those for whom we don’t have current addresses and if you have contact information for any of them, please let the alumni office know. This will allow them to forward this homecoming information to them as well.
