The Saint John Chapter is involved in several activities and events throughout the year.
- StFX Day December 3- annual Mass and Dinner or Mass and Reception
- Student Recruitment Program in conjunction with the University Admissions Department
- Scholarship presentations at High School graduations
- Alumni Chapter nominations for the Hall of Honour and Alumnus of the Year awards.
- New Brunswick Alumni Golf Tournament- organized and sponsored by the Saint John Chapter
- Student send-off for new & returning students & parents
- Support of our Chapter student scholarship-Roger Franklin Memorial Scholarship
The Saint John Chapter is the recipient of the 2006/2007Alumni Chapter of the Year Award presented at the Alumni Awards dinner at StFX September 2006 during Homecoming weekend.

The Roger Franklin Memorial Scholarship celebrates the life of Roger Franklin who was from Saint John, a SFX graduate, class in the 1970’s Students who enter StFX from our Chapter area are eligible for this scholarship as per the defined criteria. The scholarship is administered by the University on our behalf and has been granted for the past 3 years. It is renewable annually for the successful student who meets the criteria.
This year marks the 6th annual NB Alumni Golf Tournament. We are fortunate to have the support of Alumni from Fredericton area, Moncton and our chapter area who participate in our golf tournament and BBQ annually.
In 2006 we included our Student send-off for new and returning students as part of the event. Students are our guests for the BBQ and parents are also welcome.
This year, our Alumni Golf Tournament and Student send-off will be held at the
Hampton Golf & Country Club on Friday, August 10, 2007.
We look forward to welcoming Alumni and Students to this special event.
Alumni Chapter volunteers
The success of our chapter in recent years can be measured by the involvement of several of our Alumni volunteers and participants. Anyone who would like to assist in any of our events please be sure to contact myself or a member of our planning group.
Saint John & Area Alumni Chapter
Saint John & Area Alumni had a most successful StFX Day event on Sunday, December 2, 2007. Alumni and their families gathered at the 11:30am Mass at the Assumption Church, Saint John West Msgr B. Sheehan, Pastor celebrated the Mass. Several alumni participated in the Mass including David Levangie’88 and Mary Eileen Flanagan’91, Readers; Margaret Ann Smith’88, Music Cantor; Dalyce Keeling”77 and Lisa Keenan ’87 Offertory Procession; John Roderick’04 and Andrea MacLean Holohan’59 Greeters.
A Luncheon reception followed in the Knights of Columbus rooms at the Church Centre.
Refreshments were prepared by the KOC group and enjoyed by all. We had an excellent turnout of 70 + including 17 future alumni for the classes of 2018-2028. It really was a Xaverian family event.
The Chapter Chair was the emcee and welcomed everyone. The participants during the Mass were thanked. Unfortunately our guest speaker, Austin Hawley’67, Alumni Association Vice President, was unable to be with us in person but was with us in spirit. His comments were read and outlined the various activities at the University and the Alumni Association.
The Chair gave the chapter highlights of the past year including participation at a recruitment reception organized by the Director of Admissions; Scholar calls; and a successful Golf Tournament and Student Send-off in August.
2008:7th NB Golf tournament & 4th Student Send-off will be August 8, 2008 at the Hampton Golf Club, Randy McLellan’90 is committee chair.
Doug MacDonald’84 assisted with the distribution of door prizes, donated by the Alumni Office, The chapter events planning group were thanked: Jeff White, Cathy Simon, Paschal Chisholm, Doug MacDonald, Dalyce Keeling and Randy McLellan.Succession planning for the chapter is an important initiative. We welcome recent grads to volunteer to plan events including a Pub Night in the next couple of months.
