UPDATE: June 2009
Hi Again 59ers,
How great it is that over 50 of you have registered for our reunion. Don’t you think that we can do even better than that? Please jump on the bandwagon and encourage your buddies to do the same. We eagerly await you.
The remainder of you seem to fit into three categories:
1. Have said you were coming but have not registered yet. Even if you have a place to rest your head it is necessary to register. Three easy ways to do it are; i) online (see above), ii) by phoning Jessica in the Alumni office at 902-867-3760 or, iii) by snail mail (print the registration form above);
2. Sitting on the fence about whether to come or not;
3. Unfortunately (for you and for us) you are simply not able to be with us.
Since trying to email some of you, with no response, it has occurred to us that the addresses are likely no longer valid. Please correct them for us.
On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, suite 301 will be open as our Hospitality Suite at the Claymore Inn. This room will be used as a place to meet and greet and to display our memorabilia. So dig out all those strange clothes, photo albums, and yearbooks! Speaking of pictures, the Alumni office would like to receive any pictures of our day that are of good resolution so they can present a video at our dinner. If you have pictures you’d like to share, please put them on a CD or DVD and send them in by September 1st to Jessica Smith, Alumni Affairs, St. Francis Xavier University, PO Box 5000, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, B2G 2W5.
Please take a good look at the schedule enclosed and in particular, the events specific to our class. Our presence as a class will be appreciated at other scheduled events as well, hence our moments have been fitted in so that all aspects of the weekend will be available for your attendance (except for the walking tour of the campus on Fri. and that can be done Sat. before the football game). We did try to keep in mind that we “goldies” do need to get our beauty sleeps - a good idea to start resting now. Those who feel younger and springier might even dare to consider the Pub Nights.
As events unfold we will guide you through the program. But for now, the following is what you (Class of ’59) need to know.
On Thursday Night (Oct. 1st) Meet and greet starting at 8 pm at the Greenway Claymore Inn. Cash bar and light refreshments will be served.
At 10:00 am Friday (Oct. 2nd) we will leave for Crystal Cliffs (15 km/9.5 mi) past St Martha’s Hospital on the right side of the road). Those who do not know the way or who wish to double up in cars can meet at the Claymore Inn parking lot at 9:40 am. At the Cliffs we will have a short class meeting, lunch, and Mass for our deceased members. From there we will discuss what comes next on the schedule.
It looks like a go for the Coady Institute award. All who checked in with me were in full agreement. Details will be discussed at the class meeting.
Our bank account allows for our hospitality room expenses plus some others but, there could be a possibility of needing more for the pot to supplement the costs of refreshments and the possible unexpected. This will be known by the time of the class meeting.

Points to remember:
1. Register if you have not already done so.
2. Send your old photos to the Alumni Office.
3. Send your correct email address to Maura.
4. Advise us of your approximate arrival time at the MacIsaac’s on the registration form or to Maura.
5. If you are interested in the Cape Breton trip, contact Maura or Bill.
Hail and health,

Greetings ‘59ers,
Yes, we made it! ... and are looking at our 50th year since graduation from StFX. In 1959 fifty years seemed a very looooong time but in hindsight it was a mere flash. Yes it’s time again to seriously consider reuniting as a class on the old stomping ground. We urge you to run, walk or fly to the nearest mailbox with the enclosed form completed to the Alumni Office. There is an absolute guarantee that you will not regret it (take note those of you who have never come – or have not come back for a long time).
Bill Davis and I, amongst others, have been discussing plans to fit our own (Class ’59) private moments into the busy schedule that the university has planned. For that reason, we will arrive on Thurs. night Oct. 1stso that, as a class, we will have most of Friday to reacquaint ourselves and have some special time of our own (see tentative schedule). The Homecoming Reunion will continue on through the 2nd, 3rd and 4th as has been planned by the University and which includes our invitation to the “Golden Grad” (make you feel any better?) dinner on Saturday night.
There has been some interest expressed in continuing our celebration after the closing brunch on Sunday (4th) in spending a day or several days perhaps at Keltic Lodge or someplace in Cape Breton. It would be very much appreciated if you would let Bill or I know as soon as possible if you are interested (see E-mail addresses below).
The Class ’59 Fund (Myles Mills) has done very well. The capital balance as of Oct. 10, 2008 is $143,263.41 and has yielded two awards this past year of $2,500.00 each. A note of interest is that the University is using this fund as an example to other classes as a successful ongoing gift. You really must pat yourselves on the back. In view of the fact that the fund has been thriving and that it’s our 50th year when classes give gifts, as well as the fact we will be celebrating along with the Coady Institute (also in its 50th year), would you be agreeable to designating one of our awards for a Coady student? Leadership and need (with an average over 65) are the main criteria of our award which would certainly seem to fit with the aim of the Coady. Notwithstanding the uncertainty of the coming year’s yield, I have been told, with continued support, that there will likely be a chance of a third award eventually. We are very interested in your feedback so we’ll know if this is acceptable before we get to Antigonish.
This year might not be so starry, of course, due to economic times. However, from the students’ point of view, that is all the more reason to continue support whenever we are able. Keep in mind that, whenever Annual Giving calls, part or all of your contribution can be designated to this fund. Also, at any time you can make a donation in memory of a loved one to the fund.
